Wandering. . .

In the last ten months, I have gone on two wanders with my younger son. The first was to the northeast last Spring and most recently, to the northwest this winter. Our definition of a wander is that you know when you are leaving and when you are returning. All other decisions can only be made in the 24 hours of the day you are experiencing. Traveling by car or train/car works very easily because you are not dependent upon flight schedules and cancellations. Please know that not all who wander are lost. Rather, they find themselves.

As musicians, we can wander with our harps. Sometimes it is so relaxing to noodle and find a simple connection of notes and make that our melody. Then we play around with a progression or open chord in our left hand. There are even times when I do nothing but let my fingers wander. Other times open fifths or thirds is a sure match. Vary the rhythm and tonality and just wander with your harp.

Our instructor at our JPG Harp Confab this July helped me to enjoy my musical wandering. Deborah Henson Conant teaches freedom. I hope you will join us or catch her in concert or take some classes from her. It is a great way to find yourself on your harp.

Smiles,
